Karl Bauer
Karl Bauer was born on November 5, 1888 and died on May 2, 1960 in Wildberg, Germany. He also carried on the long tradition of his family in becoming a Schäfer und Landwirt (Shepherd and Farmer). He married Johanna Magdalene (née Braun) on November 10, 1921 in Effringen, a neighboring town to Wildberg. The couple had three sons: Gerhard, a middle son who died in WWII, and Werner.
Based on an account from Karl Bauer (b. 1952), he understands that the middle son pictured in the military uniform below was Killed-in-Action during World War II. He fought on the Russian front, as was killed during the battle of Stalingrad. Unfortuntely, during those days, German men had no choice but to participate in the war.
Above: The original Bauer Family Homestead (which no longer exists due to eminent domain and the expansion of Wildberg roadways). During Adolf Hitler's reign over Germany and during WWII, German civilians were forced by military to hang Nazi flags, which was unfortunate. It is also rumored that the main road through Wildberg was renamed to 'Adolf Hitler's Highway' during this wartime period.
