The Bauer Family Business
For centuries, the Bauer Family has worked as shepherds in Wildberg, Germany. Sheepherding is commonly known as one of the worlds oldest occupations, dating back almost 5,000 years.
In Germany, it is tradition that the first born son of each new family generation inherits the family business and property, and the Bauer family has been keeping up with this tradition for hundreds of years. Currently, in 2014, Karl Gerhard Bauer owns and manages all operations. Eventually, his son Karl Martin Bauer will inherit the property and business, and then his son, Maximillian, will carry on the tradition.

In 2014, at the Bauer homestead, they are responsible for tending over 800 sheep. When the sheep aren't grazing the pastures for food, the Bauer's keep busy sheering the sheep for wool, selling sheep to the butcher and meat market, and they are focused on breeding the high quality and award winning sheep.
The family has a great deal of pride in their work and the quality of sheep they breed. And, rightfully so, Karl Bauer has been winning first place in breed competitions for years. |

The Homestead
The family property is located just northwest of the downtown area of Wildberg. The family has two properties, one where their home, buildings and equipment are situated, and additional property on the other side of town where the sheep can graze in a pasture.
Years ago, the family property was situated next to the Nagold River, which runs through the city. However, sometime following World War II, the family property was relocated under a type of 'eminent domain' government decision. Therefore, only within the last 50 years or so, has the family property has been located where it resides in 2014.
