Helmut Rudolf Rusch was the son of Rudolph Rusch (born in
1885), and nephew to Anton Rusch (born in 1889). We do not know much about
Helmut or his life, but the significance of Helmut to our current day family,
is unfortunately, his death. When Helmut died, sometime in 2006, he left behind
an estate without heirs. This meant that Helmut had no living parents, he was a
widower and he had no children.
When “the German state” claimed his estate (located in Germany, where we believed Helmut lived), they worked with a legal firm to sell and divide his assets.
Without any direct family members, the law stated that Helmut’s estate must be divided equally among his Aunts and Uncles on both his paternal and maternal sides. On the paternal (Rusch) side, Helmut’s Uncle was Anton Rusch (born in 1889), and therefore the legal firm searched for a living heir within Anton’s family.
After years of work, the legal firm was eventually contact with several living heirs. Some of the recipients of the divided estate included: Ida Low (niece of Anton Rusch, and recently passed away in 2012), Maria Herlinde Sieber (niece of Anton Rusch, who, as of 2013, may still be living in Alstatten Switzerland, an approximate 25 minute drive from Dornbirn, Austria), Irma Rusch (daughter of Anton Rusch, and recently passed away in 2013) and descendants of the deceased Erika Rusch (daughter of Anton Rusch) which included Flavin Family.
In the process of the legal firm’s research, they came across many deceased Rusch family members, and the birth dates, dates of death, and locational information of family, which actually helped us validate some of our own ancestry research. We thought this was an interesting story to share and this legal documentation also served as another valuable source of information for use to use in our own ancestry research.
